FETC Keynoter Dr. Anne-Marie Imafidon to Share How to Cultivate Technology Leaders for the Future

Mathematician and technologist Imafidon will illustrate how giving opportunities to young people to make informed decisions on their own relationship with the field of technology can shift the social norm and encourage entrepreneurship.

The Future of Education Technology® Conference (FETC®), an intensive, highly collaborative exploration of new technologies, best practices and pressing issues, announced Dr. Anne-Marie Imafidon, CEO of Stemettes, and Host of “Women Tech Charge” podcast, will present the STEM keynote, The Tech Landscape and Cultivating Leaders of the Future, during the 2023 in-person event being held January 23 – 26 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. Her keynote session will focus on how to educate and engage with future leaders to best effect democratizing technology with a learning tribe empowered by mentors and a growth mindset.

Dr. Imafidon will use the findings from a 6-weeklong study to demonstrate how given the opportunity, adolescents will make informed decisions on their relationship with technology. She will also dissect the HERstory of the technology industry and how inclusion in a tech-driven world can impact the persistent bias in data collection and algorithms that make very big decisions affecting students’ lives.

Dr. Imafidon co-founded the Stemettes in 2013, an award-winning social initiative dedicated to inspiring and promoting the next generation of young women in STEM. Since its inception 9 years ago, it has exposed almost 60,000 young people to Dr. Imafidon’s vision for a more diverse and balanced science and tech community. She is the temporary Arithmetician on Channel 4’s “Countdown,” the world’s longest running game show, hosts the highly popular “Women Tech Charge” podcast and is author of She’s in CTRL. As a leading figure in the tech industry and champion of STEM in education, she has also collaborated with DK to release How to be a Maths Whizz, which is packed full of activities to inspire young children to improve their math skills. She is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Sunderland and sits on the Council of Research England.

“Dr. Imafidon’s presentation is perfectly positioned for the entire education community,” said Jennifer Womble, Conference Chair for the Future of Education Technology Conference. “As an international thought-leader in technology innovation and a champion of diversity in STEM, she will present information that will enlighten educators and administrators about how technology is revolutionizing every area of our lives and how to best prepare all students for the future. This extraordinary woman is leading the charge through personal experience, business entrepreneurship and authorship.”
