The Harvard Law SchoolFaculty Associate will discuss the promise of blockchain and its impact on education.
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – August 11, 2020 – The Future of Education Technology® Conference (FETC®), a highly collaborative exploration of new technologies, best practices and pressing issues, announced today Primavera De Filippi, Faculty Associate of the Berkman-Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Law School, as the STEM keynoter of the 2021 event taking place January 27 – 29 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.
De Filippi, permanent researcher at the National Center of Scientific Research (CNRS) and author of Blockchain and the Law, will discuss new opportunities provided by blockchain technology in the education sector in her keynote titled, Leveraging Blockchain in Education: Transparency, Accountability, & Interoperability. The presentation will dive into her investigations into blockchain technologies and the importance of this new and exciting technology plus the implications it has on the future of education. Her keynote will also showcase a wide range of innovations in technological advancements that will evolve educational processes and credentialing in the next decade. Sharing emerging technologies with educational leaders will give them the insight to prepare their districts to implement transformative learning enabled by technology.
As an internationally recognized authority on blockchain technology and emerging digital technologies, De Filippi focuses on how blockchain technology can help achieve greater transparency and accountability for academic credentials, as well as increased interoperability amongst a variety of institutional credentials. In the long term, this could allow for more granular curricula, where people could aggregate multiple credentials into a wide range of ad-hoc diplomas, as opposed to a specific set of predefined diplomas delivered by a few recognized institutions.
“Emerging technology is always changing the way we operate in our everyday lives and how education is constantly improving,” commented Jennifer Womble, Program Chair of the Future of Education Technology Conference. “FETC is bridging the gap between the latest technological research advancements in blockchain technologies and real-world applications in education to prepare for the future landscape by introducing the cutting-edge research of Primavera De Filippi.”
In addition to the De Filippi Keynote, FETC will feature sessions and workshops in 6 distinct tracks including Future of Ed Tech Administrator, Future of Ed Tech Educator, Future of Ed Tech Information Technology, Future of Ed Tech Assistive Technology & Special Education, Future of Ed Tech Coach, and Future of Ed Tech Library Media Specialist. FETC will also include a keynote presentation from Wharton’s top-rated professor for seven straight years, Adam Grant. The Expo Hall will feature leading solution providers and give attendees the opportunity to get up close with the most innovative technologies, applications and services available in ed tech today.
